Monday Karezu, 32, a Benin Republic national, and Anagonou Kamelan, 44, a Togolese national, were claimed to have been arrested at a herbalist’s house while attempting to conduct ritual money.
On Sunday, November 14, 2021, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, issued a statement.
The suspects were apprehended on November 3, 2021, after a tip that three men were going to a herbalist’s residence with a human head, according to the PPRO.
“Based on the information we received, the DSP Nurudeen Gafar-led team proceeded quickly to the location where the herbalist home was located and set up an ambush there,” he explained. The two suspects arrived on a motorcycle with a bag holding the human head two hours after they arrived, and they were instantly apprehended.
“During questioning, Karezu told the cops that he got the head from a place called Ijale Papa. This prompted the cops to pursue him to the location, only to discover that he was lying. Karezu is a resident of Abeokuta’s Sabo neighborhood, and the human head he was carrying was that of a woman who died three months ago during childbirth and was buried not far from his home.
“It was also uncovered that the guy had previously murdered his nine-month-old daughter and attempted to use her head for the same purpose but failed.” He had also attempted, but failed, to exhume another corpse, take the skull, and utilize it in a money-making ritual.
“The most recent one that got them into trouble was introduced to him by Anagonou Kamalen, a Togolese, who informed him that he knows a herbalist who can do a ‘original’ money-making ritual for him with a human head, so he exhumed the body of the woman buried not far from his house, cut off the head, and took it to the herbalist’s house where they were apprehended before delivering it.”
Lanre Bankole, the state commissioner, has also ordered a complete inquiry into the suspects’ previous activity, according to Oyeyemi.
He went on to say that as soon as the investigation was completed, the suspects would be charged in court.
