Uduak Akpan, the alleged killer of Iniubong Umoren, a 20-year-old undergraduate, has changed his mind and pleaded not guilty to the two-count accusation of murder and rape leveled against him.
In May of 2021, Akpan confessed to enticing, killing, and burying the body in a shallow grave in Akwa Ibom state while speaking to newsmen. He was then detained and put into police custody, according to reports.
After the prosecuting witnesses, Chairman of the state’s Uruan Local Government, Surveyor Iniobong Ekpeyong, and his cousin, Kufre Effiong, testified in court on Thursday, November 4, the suspect changed his plea to “not guilty.”
Frank Akpan, Uduak’s father and the second accused, and his sister, Bassey Anwan Akpan, the third accused, have both pleaded not guilty to the two-count accusation of hiding Uduak while knowing he murdered Iniubong Umoren.
